The Best Community Program celebrates mainstream community-based organisations whose programs showcase inclusive practices. NDIS Providers or disability organisations are eligible to nominate only if they are supporting the mainstream community organisation to establish their program.
Finalist Details
The A-TEAM, initiated in 2020 by the ACE Camera Club in Albany WA, is a photography program aimed at nurturing the talents of people with disability. The program offers skill development and confidence-building opportunities.
Rapid growth posed challenges to its sustainability, but with support from APM Communities, the club restructured to accommodate future growth. The A-TEAM now partners with local government and organisations to provide photographic services for various events and offers workshops and educational activities.
The program is centred on community engagement and has become a key contributor to local events, including the provision of all 12 photos for the City of Albany's community calendar. The support from APM Communities has been crucial in navigating the complexities of growth, allowing the A-TEAM to thrive and continue supporting its members.
